With over ninety roles in over seventy operas, American tenor Doug Jones has proven himself to be one of the most versatile character tenors performing today. His repertoire embraces all styles from Monteverdi to premieres of new works by composers such as Gyorgi Ligeti, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Luca Lombardi, and Tobias Picker. Recent performances include Pang in Turandot (filmed for DVD, label Opus Arte) and Junge Diener in Elektra at the Royal Opera Covent Garden; a return to Seattle Opera as Borsa in Rigoletto and Major-Domo & Innkeeper in Ariadne Auf Naxos; Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro for Dallas Opera; Kronprinz in Kevin Puts’s Silent Night and Dancaïro in Carmen with Kansas City Lyric Opera; Major-Domo and Innkeeper in Der Rosenkavalier (with Renee Fleming) for the National Symphony Orchestra; and his Carnegie Hall debut with the American Symphony Orchestra in Strauss’s Friedenstag.
In the US, Mr. Jones has performed with Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Dallas Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Opera Arizona, Opera Colorado, Baltimore Lyric Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, the Los Angeles Philharmonic (Hollywood Bowl), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Bard Festival. Internationally, he has appeared in many European houses including Opera Bastille, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, Oper Frankfurt, Opera de Bordeaux, Netherlands Opera, Vienna Opera Theater, Stadttheater Basel, Opera Toulouse, and New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. He also appeared with the summer festivals of Salzburg, Bregenz, Innsbruck, San Sebastián (Spain), Batignano (Italy), and Aix-en-Provence.
